The chaos of the US post offices...I can't even speak! I am without

The Best of Everything
I have a friend who moved to NYC because of the film The Warriors. For me, I think it was in part because of the 1959 drama based on Rona Jaffe's novel The Best of Everything. The clip here shows Gregg Adams played by "supermodel of her time" Suzy Parker and Amanda Farrow played by Joan Crawford, but really it was Hope Lange's Caroline Bender that I thought I could be once I moved to New York. I wish somebody had uploaded one of her clips...These girls were the Sex & The City of their day!

Fleet Week

Memorial Day Weekend (which we don't have in Australia) is a very special time in NYC, and not just because it's the official summer kick-off! For more details click here.

Yellow cabs
They may not be the quickest or most economic way to get around the city but they are one of the most recognizable visual icons of NYC.
I'll miss being able to step onto the sidewalk, glamorously/sexily/drunkenly wave an arm and have one cross three lanes and brake at my feet...(well, except when it's raining, snowing, or I have luggage or shopping). In most cases, specially late night, Sydney cabs require a phone call...

Already don't miss!
My first job in NYC....Zen Palate 46th & 9th. Even the glamour of
waiting on Eric Stoltz and Barry Bostwick wasn't enough to overcome hours spent in the basement washing lettuce and wrapping spring rolls! Waiters ripped me off on my share of tips, the manager constantly and creepily hit on me, and expected me to teach him English, AND they expected me to dress like a frumpy washer woman with a loose shirt and flat shoes!

Something I'll Miss...
I will CERTAINLY MISS not being able to turn on the TV at any time of day and watch an episode of Law & Order...jet lag, long rainy days, insomnia were all simply solved by watching vintage episodes and spotting stars before they were famous, like Jennifer Garner and Claire Danes! (more here). I'll miss Goren & Eames, Liv & Stabler, van Buren, Lennie Briscoe, ADA Abbie Carmichael, but mostly I'll miss sexy silver fox Jack McCoy.
Will I miss the fact that living in the East Village on any given day, especially in the summer, you would be redirected across the street to avoid an LNO set? Hmmmm, wait and see! Pic here shows view from my fire escape of ripped-from-the-headlines Britney Spears episode opening scene being shot. This building was also used as the exterior for a scene from Beaches. It was demolished about a year ago.

The Best Part of Waking Up
I'm definitely GOING TO MISS waking up to Matt Lauer's handsome bald head and his natural, conversation-like interviews on The Today Show in the morning.
WILL NOT miss Ann Curry's condescending, insincere interviews - ugh!!!

This I Won't Miss
- 10 months out of the year its too stinky hot, or too bitterly cold to actually go for a run!
- the hours I've spent trying to figure out how much to tip on cheap mani-pedi's...and massage, facial and hair appointments
- Yankees tickets in any section other than bleachers cost more than a month's rent (but more on that later)
Things I Will Miss
I quit my job, sublet my apartment, bought a plane ticket, and had my first farewell luncheon at work today. After almost 15 years in New York City I'm moving back to my hometown of Sydney. Every day I see things, do things and experience things that make me think "I sure am going to miss that", but just as often I think, "well, that's something I won't miss"... so here's my list.
